I've had bipolar disorder since I was in my early twenties. I'm in my mid-forties now, and I've managed to keep it under control with the help of medications and the love and support of my friends, family, and my loving and sympathetic husband.
Unfortunately, getting to where I am now taking a long time.
For many years, I struggled with the difficulties of attempting to live a productive and useful life despite the imbalances caused by my condition.

Unfortunately, getting to where I am now taking a long time.
For many years, I struggled with the difficulties of attempting to live a productive and useful life despite the imbalances caused by my condition.
I was unable to get proper therapy during this period because I was uninformed that I had bipolar disorder.
My Battle with Bipolar Disorder
More than one doctor had diagnosed me with depression, and the meds I was prescribed did little to improve my general state.
My depressive episodes were punctuated by bursts of manic behavior, some more intense than others.
These were always my assumptions about life's ups and downs.
I found it difficult to go to work during my spells of depression, which fluctuated in length and intensity.
I couldn't concentrate because my feelings of hopelessness were so overwhelming that some days I didn't even get out of bed.
I used to believe that everything was possible during my manic episodes.
While I maintained a cheerful attitude during these episodes, I was frequently irritated and difficult to work with.
My euphoria was occasionally followed by intervals of normalcy, but I always returned to depression.
I was finally diagnosed with bipolar disorder after a particularly long fight with depression for which I had to be hospitalized.
Simply becoming aware of what was going on inside of me helped me comprehend some of the issues I was having.
I was put on a series of drugs to help me control my illness, and I learned to predict the onset of episodes and retain rational thinking through counseling.
Despite the fact that I must be mindful of my illness at all times, I now have a functioning and satisfying life that I enjoy.
Thankfully, there are now a plethora of resources for learning about the bipolar disease, and the medical community is much more aware of its prevalence.
